(Revised) Effective Date: N/A Revision Date: N/A Surgery - Fracture and/or Dislocation Procedures on the Head Feed
Closed treatment of nasal bone fracture with manipulation; without stabilization.
Modifiers such as 22 (Increased Procedural Services), 52 (Reduced Services) and others may apply based on specific circumstances.
Medical necessity for this procedure must be established by documenting the presence of a nasal fracture causing functional or cosmetic impairment requiring reduction.
In simple words: The doctor repositions your broken nose bones by hand, without surgery or a splint.
This code describes a procedure where the physician manipulates the nasal bones to realign them after a fracture, without making an incision. It does not include the application of a stabilizing device like a splint.
Example 1: A patient presents with a fractured nasal bone causing displacement and misalignment. The physician manually reduces the fracture without the need for an incision or stabilization device., A patient sustains a nasal bone fracture during a sports injury. The physician performs a closed reduction of the fracture, manipulating the bone fragments back into place, but does not apply a splint or cast., A child falls and breaks their nose. The physician is able to realign the fractured nasal bones without needing surgery, using only manual manipulation. No stabilizing device is required.
Documentation should include details of the nasal bone fracture, the manipulation technique used, confirmation of successful reduction, and the absence of a stabilization device. If the fracture is significantly complex, requiring increased procedural services, this must be documented to support using modifier 22.
