An EMG of both anal and urethral sphincters is performed to provide a complete picture of the muscle function in the area.
Documentation should include details of the patient's symptoms, the reason for the EMG, the technique used, the findings, and the interpretation of the results. A separate report should be available if the EMG is performed for diagnostic purposes.
