2025 CPT code 92622

Diagnostic analysis, programming, and verification of an auditory osseointegrated sound processor; first 60 minutes.

Follow the CPT coding guidelines for special otorhinolaryngologic services. The code is time-based, and additional units of 92623 should be reported for each 15 minutes beyond the initial 60 minutes.Appropriate documentation must support the time spent. For services under 30 minutes, 92700 is the appropriate unlisted code.

Modifiers may be applicable depending on the circumstances. Consult the CPT manual for details.

Medical necessity is established by the patient's diagnosis of hearing loss and the need for programming and verification of a bone-anchored hearing aid to improve auditory function.Documentation should support the need for the service.

The audiologist or physician performs the diagnostic analysis, programming (or reprogramming), and verification of the auditory osseointegrated sound processor. This includes assessment of the processor's attachment, calibration, programming of the device, and verification of its functionality.

IMPORTANT:Should not be used with 92626 and 92627.Use 92623 for each additional 15 minutes. If the service is less than 30 minutes, do not bill 92623 separately; instead use 92700 with appropriate documentation.

In simple words: The doctor checks, programs, and tests a bone-anchored hearing device to make sure it's working correctly. This code covers the first hour of work.

This CPT code encompasses the diagnostic analysis, programming (or reprogramming), and verification of any type of auditory osseointegrated sound processor. These devices address hearing impairment via an abutment or device surgically implanted into the skull, facilitating sound energy conversion to be received by the inner ear(s). Services include assessing processor attachment, device feedback calibration, programming, and verifying processor performance. This code represents the first 60 minutes of service.

Example 1: A patient with a newly implanted bone-anchored hearing aid requires initial programming and verification of the device’s functionality.Code 92622 is used to report the first 60 minutes of this service. , A patient has an existing bone-anchored hearing aid needing adjustments to improve sound quality and reduce feedback. The audiologist performs reprogramming and verification, billing 92622 for the first 60 minutes of work., A patient presents for a follow-up visit for troubleshooting a bone-anchored hearing aid malfunction. The audiologist spends 75 minutes performing diagnostic analysis, reprogramming, and verification of the device.Codes 92622 and 92623 are used, with 92623 representing the additional 15 minutes of service (75-60=15).

Detailed documentation is required, including patient history, device type and serial number, pre- and post-programming audiometric data, and a record of the programming parameters and adjustments made.
