In-person interrogation device evaluation of a subcutaneous cardiac rhythm monitor, including analysis, review, and report; with connection, recording, and disconnection.

Follow CPT guidelines for cardiac device evaluation services. The code is reported per procedure, not within a global period.Do not report this code if a remote interrogation of the same device is performed by the same individual during the same period. Also, note the restrictions on reporting this code in conjunction with certain other codes.

Modifiers 26 (professional component) and 59 (distinct procedural service) may be applicable depending on the circumstances of the service.

Medical necessity is established by the patient's need for cardiac rhythm monitoring, often due to a history of arrhythmias, syncope, or other cardiac conditions. The in-person interrogation is necessary for thorough assessment of device function, rhythm data analysis and proper interpretation.

The physician or other qualified healthcare professional is responsible for establishing the communication link with the subcutaneous cardiac rhythm monitor, downloading and interpreting the data, assessing device function, analyzing rhythm data, and preparing a report of findings. They must be qualified by education, training, and licensure to perform this service and independently report it.

IMPORTANT:Do not report 93291 in conjunction with 33285, 93288-93290, 93298, 0650T.

Example 1: A patient with a subcutaneous cardiac rhythm monitor experiences syncope. The physician performs an in-person interrogation to evaluate the device and recorded rhythm data, identifying the cause of the syncope., Routine follow-up for a patient with a subcutaneous cardiac rhythm monitor. The physician performs an in-person interrogation to assess device function, battery status, and rhythm data.
