This code is for additional 30 minutes of psychological/neuropsychological test administration and scoring by a physician or other qualified healthcare professional, for two or more tests, using any method. It's reported separately, in addition to the primary procedure code.

This add-on code is used to report each additional 30 minutes of psychological or neuropsychological test administration and scoring, when two or more tests are given and scored by a physician or other qualified health care professional. The tests can use any method and is reported separately and in addition to codes 96130, 96131, 96132, or 96133.

The initial test administration and scoring take one hour (reported with 96136), and an additional 30 minutes are needed to complete all tests (96137)., A patient suspected of having early-onset dementia is given a battery of cognitive tests.The physician spends 1 hour and 30 minutes administering and scoring the tests. 96136 is used for the first hour with 96137 being reported for the additional 30 minutes., A patient with a traumatic brain injury undergoes neuropsychological testing to assess cognitive deficits.If the testing requires one hour and a half of administration and scoring, code 96136 would be used for the first hour and code 96137 would be used for the additional 30 minutes.

Documentation should include the type and number of tests administered, the total time spent on administration and scoring, the patient's performance on each test, and the results interpretation.
