This code covers the first 20 minutes of remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM) treatment management services provided by a physician or other qualified healthcare professional in a calendar month. It includes at least one interactive communication with the patient or caregiver during the calendar month. RTM involves using FDA-approved medical devices to collect therapeutic data, which is then reviewed and monitored to manage the patient's treatment plan. Examples of RTM include monitoring respiratory system status, musculoskeletal system status, therapy adherence, and therapy response.

Example 1: A patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) uses a remote spirometer to monitor lung function. The physician reviews the transmitted data, communicates with the patient to assess symptoms and adherence to the treatment plan, and adjusts medications as needed. The physician spends 20 minutes on these activities during the calendar month., A patient recovering from knee surgery uses a remote sensor to track range of motion and activity levels. The physician reviews the data, communicates with the patient to discuss progress and any pain or discomfort, and modifies the rehabilitation plan accordingly. The total time spent by physician is 20 minutes within the calendar month., A patient with hypertension uses a remote blood pressure monitor. The physician reviews the data, contacts the patient to discuss readings and medication adherence, and provides lifestyle recommendations. All this requires 20 minutes of physician's time in a month.

Documentation should include the data gathered from the device, date and time of patient/caregiver interaction, and any treatment decisions made based on the monitoring.
