2025 ICD-10-CM code C25.8

Malignant neoplasm involving two or more adjacent sites of the pancreas.

Use C25.8 when a single malignant tumor overlaps two or more contiguous (adjacent) sites of the pancreas. Do not use C25.8 for multiple tumors in different, non-contiguous areas of the pancreas; instead, code each separate tumor location. Code also for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (K86.81) if applicable. Use an additional code to identify alcohol abuse and dependence (F10.-) if relevant.

The medical necessity for using C25.8 is determined by the confirmation of a malignant neoplasm involving overlapping sites of the pancreas. The diagnosis must be supported by appropriate diagnostic evidence, such as imaging studies and/or biopsy results. The medical necessity is linked to the need for accurate coding to reflect the extent and complexity of the disease, which influences treatment planning and resource allocation.

Diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer. This includes a thorough assessment of the patient's condition, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (such as blood tests, CT scans, MRI, ERCP, TUS, EUS, and PET scans), determining the stage and extent of the cancer, and developing a treatment plan. Treatment may involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or a combination of these, depending on the specific case.

In simple words: Pancreatic cancer that spreads across different parts of the pancreas.

Malignant neoplasm of overlapping sites of the pancreas refers to the abnormal growth of pancreatic cells that can spread rapidly to nearby tissues, blood vessels, or lymphatic vessels. It is characterized by the involvement of two or more contiguous sites within the pancreas.

Example 1: A patient presents with jaundice, abdominal pain, and weight loss. Imaging reveals a malignant tumor affecting both the head and body of the pancreas., A patient with a history of chronic pancreatitis is diagnosed with a malignant neoplasm that has spread from the body of the pancreas to the tail., A patient undergoes a biopsy, and the pathology report indicates a malignant tumor involving multiple adjacent sections of the pancreas.

Medical history, physical examination findings, imaging reports (CT, MRI, ERCP, TUS, EUS, PET), biopsy results, operative reports (if surgery is performed), pathology reports.
