2025 ICD-10-CM code Q37.1

Cleft hard palate with unilateral cleft lip.

Do not use this code on a maternal record. Use additional code Q30.2 for associated nose malformations. Excludes2 Robin's syndrome (Q87.0) and inborn errors of metabolism (E70-E88).

This code is used to diagnose a congenital condition present at birth.

IMPORTANT:Use additional code Q30.2 to identify associated malformation of the nose.

In simple words: A baby born with a cleft hard palate and a cleft lip on one side of their mouth.

Cleft hard palate with unilateral cleft lip. This includes cases where the cleft lip is not specified as complete or incomplete.

Example 1: A newborn is examined and found to have a cleft lip on the left side of their face and a cleft extending through the hard palate. This would be coded as Q37.1., An infant presents with a cleft lip on the right side and a complete cleft of the hard palate. This would be coded as Q37.1., A baby is born with a cleft lip that extends into the nose on one side and a cleft hard palate. This would be coded as Q37.1 and Q30.2 (associated malformation of the nose).

Documentation should specify the location (unilateral) and extent of the cleft lip and that it involves the hard palate.
