Total hip arthroplasty (THA), with or without autograft or allograft.
Modifiers may be applicable; refer to current CPT guidelines.
Severe hip pain and dysfunction due to conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, or fractures, not responding to conservative treatment.
The surgeon makes an incision, exposes the hip joint, dislocates the hip, removes the damaged femoral head, prepares the acetabulum and femur for the prosthesis, inserts and secures the prosthetic components, reduces the hip joint, and closes the incision.
In simple words: This procedure involves surgically replacing the entire hip joint with an artificial joint (prosthesis). It may include using bone grafts from the patient (autograft) or another person (allograft).
Arthroplasty, acetabular and proximal femoral prosthetic replacement (total hip arthroplasty), with or without autograft or allograft.
Example 1: A 65-year-old patient with osteoarthritis of the hip, experiencing severe pain and limited mobility, undergoes total hip arthroplasty using a cemented prosthesis., A 50-year-old patient with avascular necrosis of the femoral head undergoes total hip arthroplasty with an uncemented prosthesis and an autograft from the iliac crest., A 70-year-old patient with a previous hip fracture undergoes total hip arthroplasty with an allograft to augment bone stock.
Preoperative and postoperative diagnoses, operative report detailing the procedure, type of prosthesis used, use of bone grafts, and any complications.
