Modifier 22 may be appended if the procedure requires significant additional time and effort due to secondary procedures performed during the cystourethroscopy.

Modifiers are applicable to this code, such as 22 (Increased Procedural Services), 51 (Multiple Procedures), 52 (Reduced Services), 59 (Distinct Procedural Service), among others.

Medical necessity must be established by documenting the symptoms, signs, or conditions that justify the procedure.

The physician prepares the patient, inserts the cystoscope, examines the bladder and urethra, and removes the scope.

In simple words: A procedure where a doctor examines the inside of your bladder and urethra using a thin tube with a camera called a cystoscope.

Examination of the interior of the bladder, the urethra, and the ureteric openings by means of a cystourethroscope.

Example 1: A patient presents with recurrent urinary tract infections. Cystourethroscopy is performed to evaluate for underlying anatomical abnormalities., A patient experiences gross hematuria. Cystourethroscopy is performed to identify the source of bleeding., A patient with a history of bladder cancer undergoes surveillance cystourethroscopy to monitor for recurrence.

Documentation should include the indication for the procedure, findings during the examination, and any procedures performed through the cystoscope.
