2025 CPT code 76825

Fetal echocardiography with image documentation (2D), with or without M-mode recording.

Use 76826 for repeat fetal echocardiography. Modifier 26 should be appended for the professional component only, and TC for the technical component only. Do not append modifiers when reporting a global service.

Modifiers 26 (Professional Component) and TC (Technical Component) can be used when appropriate.

Medical necessity for fetal echocardiography is determined by factors such as maternal medical history, family history of congenital heart defects, abnormal findings on a standard ultrasound, or other high-risk pregnancy conditions.

Performed by a physician specializing in fetal cardiology, often in collaboration with a sonographer. The physician interprets the images and provides a diagnosis.

In simple words: This is a special ultrasound of the baby's heart during pregnancy. It creates detailed pictures of the baby's heart to check how it is formed and how well it is working.Sometimes, a special technique called "M-mode" is also used to see how the heart parts are moving.

Complete evaluation of the fetal cardiovascular system using real-time fetal echocardiography, which may include M-mode recording. This involves a detailed assessment of the fetal heart's structure and function, including chambers, valves, and blood vessels.M-mode, if used, provides additional information about the motion of heart structures, such as valves.

Example 1: A pregnant woman with a family history of congenital heart defects undergoes fetal echocardiography to assess the fetal heart for abnormalities., A routine ultrasound detects an irregularity in the fetal heartbeat, prompting a fetal echocardiography for further evaluation., A pregnant woman with a medical condition, such as diabetes, that increases the risk of fetal heart problems undergoes fetal echocardiography.

A detailed report documenting the findings of the fetal echocardiography, including images, measurements, and interpretations. The report should describe the structure and function of the fetal heart, noting any abnormalities.
