Myocardial perfusion imaging, planar (including qualitative or quantitative wall motion, ejection fraction by first pass or gated technique, additional quantification, when performed); multiple studies, at rest and/or stress (exercise or pharmacologic) and/or redistribution and/or rest reinjection.
Modifiers 26 (Professional Component), 51 (Multiple Procedures), 52 (Reduced Services), 53 (Discontinued Procedure), 76 (Repeat Procedure or Service by Same Physician), 77 (Repeat Procedure by Another Physician), 79 (Unrelated Procedure or Service by the Same Physician During the Postoperative Period), 80 (Assistant Surgeon), 81 (Minimum Assistant Surgeon), and 82 (Assistant Surgeon when qualified resident surgeon not available) may be applicable.
In simple words: This procedure uses multiple pictures of the heart to find areas with low blood flow. A special substance is injected that helps show healthy heart tissue. Pictures are taken while the patient is resting or under stress (exercising or taking medicine) to see where blood flow is reduced. More pictures can be taken to track how the heart recovers.
This procedure involves multiple planar studies of the heart to identify areas with poor blood supply. A radionuclide substance is injected, which collects in non-ischemic tissues. Planar images of the heart are taken under rest or stress conditions (induced by exercise or vasodilators) to pinpoint areas with deficient blood flow. Multiple studies, including redistribution and rest reinjection, may be performed.
