(Active) Effective Date: N/A Neoplasms - Benign neoplasm of colon, rectum, anus and anal canal 2 (Neoplasms) Feed
Benign neoplasm of the colon, rectum, anus, and anal canal.
Medical necessity is determined by the presence of symptoms, the size and location of the tumor, and the potential for complications.
Providers diagnose the condition based on the patient’s history and physical examination. The provider may perform endoscopy for excisional biopsy of the lesion for microscopic analysis. X–ray, MRI, and CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis helps diagnose and plan treatment. Some benign tumors do not require treatment, but when necessary, surgical removal is usually the treatment of choice.
