2025 HCPCS code G0295

Electromagnetic therapy to one or more areas, for wound care other than described in G0329 or for other uses.

Use G0295 for wound care other than chronic stage III or IV pressure ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, or venous stasis ulcers not demonstrating measurable signs of healing after 30 days of conventional care. Do not use this code with G0329.

Medical necessity must be established for the use of G0295. This may include documentation of failed conventional wound care for a specified period, the size and nature of the wound, and the rationale for using electromagnetic therapy.

The provider applies an electromagnetic field over the affected body area(s) using an electrode pad. This stimulates muscles and improves blood supply, promoting healing.

IMPORTANT:For chronic stage III and stage IV pressure ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and venous stasis ulcers, use G0329. For electrical stimulation for wound care, use G0281 or G0282.

In simple words: This code describes a treatment where a device uses magnetic waves to help heal certain wounds or for other therapy reasons. It's not for chronic pressure sores, arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, or venous stasis ulcers, which have a different code.

This code covers the application of an electromagnetic field to one or more areas of the body to treat wounds not described in another code (such as chronic stage III or stage IV pressure ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and venous stasis ulcers), or for other therapeutic purposes.

Example 1: A patient with a non-healing surgical wound after 30 days receives electromagnetic therapy to promote tissue repair., A patient with a burn wound receives electromagnetic therapy to accelerate healing., Electromagnetic therapy is used as part of a treatment plan for a traumatic wound.

Documentation should support the medical necessity of electromagnetic therapy, specifying the type of wound, its location, the duration of conventional care (if applicable), and the treatment plan.
