Medical necessity is established when the remote evaluation of recorded video and/or images provides clinically relevant information that would not be readily available through other means and is necessary to determine appropriate diagnosis and/or management of the patient's condition. The service should be medically necessary, appropriate, and not duplicative of other services.
The provider reviews and interprets recorded video and/or images remotely submitted by an established patient, and provides follow-up within 24 business hours. This requires expertise in the relevant medical specialty to accurately analyze the images and formulate appropriate recommendations. The provider is responsible for ensuring the patient receives timely and appropriate follow-up care based on the interpretation of the images.
