Medical necessity is established by the presence of a burn injury to the eye and adnexa requiring medical attention.

In simple words: Burn and chemical burn limited to the eye area.

Burn and corrosion confined to eye and adnexa. This includes thermal burns from various sources like electrical appliances, flames, friction, hot air/gases, hot objects, lightning, and radiation, as well as chemical burns (corrosion) both external and internal, and scalds.

Example 1: A patient presents with a burn to their eyelid caused by a hot curling iron., A welder sustains a corneal burn from the intense light of the welding arc., A child splashes a household cleaner in their eye, resulting in a chemical burn.

Documentation should clearly specify the cause of the burn (e.g., hot object, chemical, radiation), the degree and extent of the burn, and any associated injuries. The affected area of the eye (e.g., eyelid, cornea, conjunctiva) must be documented.
