Hit or struck by falling object due to accident to watercraft. This includes being hit by part of a damaged watercraft or another object after falling or jumping from the damaged watercraft.
Medical necessity is established by the nature of the injury sustained as a direct result of the accident.The documentation should support the need for medical intervention related to the injury caused by the falling object.
In simple words: The person was injured by a falling object related to a watercraft accident. This could be part of the boat, or something else that fell, after they fell or jumped from the damaged watercraft.It does not include injuries from drowning after falling or jumping from the watercraft.

Example 1: A passenger on a ferry falls overboard during a collision and is subsequently struck by falling debris from the damaged ferry., A boater jumps from their sinking vessel and is hit by a dislodged piece of the boat's mast., During a storm, a sailor is knocked off a sailboat by a large wave and is then struck by a falling boom.
Documentation should clearly indicate that the injury resulted from being hit by a falling object specifically due to a watercraft accident, and not simply from the act of falling or jumping from the watercraft. The type of falling object should also be documented, as well as the events leading up to the accident.
** Additional codes may be used to identify airbag injury (W22.1) or type of street or road (Y92.4-).If applicable, also code for the use of cellular telephone and other electronic equipment at the time of the transport accident (Y93.C-).
