Hit or struck by falling object due to accident to watercraft. This includes being hit by part of a damaged watercraft or another object after falling or jumping from the damaged watercraft.

Use V91.3 as a secondary code to a code from another chapter indicating the nature of the injury (e.g., a code from Chapter 19, Injury, poisoning and certain other consequences of external causes (S00-T88)).Do not use V91.3 for drowning or submersion related to the accident; use V90.- instead.

In simple words: The person was injured by a falling object related to a watercraft accident. This could be part of the boat, or something else that fell, after they fell or jumped from the damaged watercraft. It does not include injuries from drowning after falling or jumping from the watercraft.

Hit or struck by falling object due to accident to watercraft. This includes being hit by part of a damaged watercraft or another object after falling or jumping from the damaged watercraft. Excludes2: drowning or submersion due to fall or jumping from damaged watercraft (V90.2-, V90.3-)

Example 1: A passenger on a ferry falls overboard during a collision and is subsequently struck by falling debris from the damaged ferry., A boater jumps from their sinking vessel and is hit by a dislodged piece of the boat's mast., During a storm, a sailor is knocked off a sailboat by a large wave and is then struck by a falling boom.

Documentation should clearly indicate that the injury resulted from being hit by a falling object specifically due to a watercraft accident, and not simply from the act of falling or jumping from the watercraft. The type of falling object should also be documented, as well as the events leading up to the accident.
