2025 ICD-10-CM code W00

Fall due to ice and snow. This includes a pedestrian falling (slipping) on ice and snow.

The code should be used as a secondary code to the code describing the injury or condition resulting from the fall. For example, if a patient fractures their wrist after falling on ice, the code for the fracture would be the primary code, and W00 would be the secondary code.

Medical necessity is established by the injuries sustained as a result of the fall. The documentation should support the need for medical care related to those injuries.

Clinicians should document the circumstances of the fall, including the surface condition (ice or snow), and any resulting injuries.

Example 1: A pedestrian slips and falls on an icy sidewalk, fracturing their wrist., A person walking their dog falls on a snow-covered path, spraining their ankle., A child playing in the snow falls and sustains a minor head injury.
